Adventure is in here!!

Yesterday, our crew went for a long walk.  As we headed out the door, the kids grabbed their binoculars, notepads and pen. They were gearing up for an adventure.  When I think of adventure, I am not usually thinking a Sunday afternoon walk during a national quarantine kind of adventure, but more like hiking the Grand Canyon or sky diving (which is something I will never do by the way!) In the same way,  I would not  naturally describe this crazy thing we are all navigating through as an adventure, am I right? But as I have taken this thing one day at a time, I am realizing that adventure is here and is available to be experienced. Before you start rolling your eyes or getting upset with me--hear me out.

The definition of adventure is: “An unusual and exciting, typically hazardous, experience or activity.” Now, our lives are starting to sound more like adventures, aren’t they? Haha! I told you!

When we said, “Yes,” to following Jesus, we said, “Yes,” to adventure - the exciting and the unusual, the thrilling and the dangerous. He exchanges our ordinary, static, overwhelmed, and mundane lives for lives carried out with meaning, purpose, and movement. Yes even here in quarantine.

Romans 8:15 in the MSG says, “This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?”

In times like this it is very easy to lose focus and to shift our perspective. We don't see this as an adventure, but rather a place of great frustration.

Beautiful, friend, it’s time to awaken adventure!

It is time to pull out our binoculars, grab our pen and paper and seek the adventure that is to be had right here--in this hard, messy, unfamiliar territory.

We can bring great meaning and wonder to this moment simply by how we choose to see this. Are we going to see this as our prison or are we going to see this as our wildest adventure? Which, by the way, doesn't always mean most fun or awesome. This part of the adventure isn't going to be forever, so while we are here, let's make the most of it! In this adventure with you my friend!
