How Are You Doing Under Pressure?

Spoiler alert! Pressure is a part of life no matter who you are or what you do. We can not wish it away, avoid it or pretend it doesn’t exists. Realizing your dreams, achieving your goals and pursuing your purpose has everything to do with how well you navigate pressure.

Pressure is often viewed in a negative manner. And, although there are pressures that can have a negative impact on us, the right kind of pressure is not only good for us, but necessary.

Pressure gives us the ability to realize our greatest potential—it’s often the vehicle that takes us from where we are to where we desire to be.

It not only mobilizes us, but is valuable in developing who we are.

This is what the writer James, in the Bible says about pressure.

Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way. James 1:1 MSG

Not only are we supposed to embrace pressure, but we are encouraged to celebrate it!

When we welcome pressure, we put pressure in it’s proper place. Pressure isn’t supposed to break us,  it’s desinged to make us.

Pressure makes us mature. Pressure makes us well developed. Pressure ensures we aren’t deficient in any way and pressure keeps us authentic.

Pressure helps us identify areas we need to grow, things that need to be refined, and positions us to bring forth new life.

Ask any mother who has labored. Right before her miracle is brought into this world, she experiences great pressure. When she does, she knows she is closer than ever before to bringing forth life.

When we see pressure as an obstacle to our growth, it has the ability to wear us down, beat us up and overcome us.

But, when we identify pressure as being a necessary tool for our growth and development, pressure becomes something we no longer tolerate or complain about, but something we celebrate.

Celebrating pressure isn’t living in it, it’s using whatever is being thrown your way to help you move towards your goal.

As you pursue your dreams and goals you will experience pressure. When you do, remember that pressure is a sure sign you are heading in the right direction.
